Golf IQ initially set out to be a game improvement company. The company was based on Scott’s instructional philosophy that a golfer must approach learning the game in a holistic manner. In order to achieve their potential a golfer should spend equal time learning and practicing the following four aspects of their game.

1. Technique
2. Fitness
3. Course Management
4. Club Fitting

The initial concept was to develop a fully integrated golf school that would pay equal attention to each of these aspects and allow golfers to finally play to their potential.

Due to the company’s Canadian roots, in order to provide year round instruction many of the courses were taught indoors. It was through the course of this indoor instruction that Scott Nichol found that it was very difficult to communicate the feeling of a proper swing without the use of instructional training aids.

In his teaching Scott found that a weighted club was the most effective method of teaching the correct feel of the proper follow through and extension through the ball. Unfortunately, at the time, weighted golf clubs felt extremely heavy and were not designed for hitting golf balls. Extensive video analysis showed that Scott’s students were improving their practice swings but once they had a ball on the ground that many of their old habits came back to haunt them.

This realization led Scott to develop a commercial version of a product that he had been working on in his basement since 1996, the Swing Accelerator. After over 100 prototypes Scott had developed a weighted golf club that had the look, feel, and balance of a conventional golf club and most importantly

you could hit balls with the Swing Accelerator.

After showing the Swing Accelerator to his students and to many local teaching professionals including Canadian PGA Teacher of the Year Bob McArthur, Scott realized that his product was ready for the market. At that time Golf IQ refocused its efforts on the marketing and distribution of golf accessories and golf training aids. Over the past three years our client list has expanded to include all of Canada’s primary golf specialty retailers including Golf Town and Nevada Bobs and many of the country’s leading golf academies and teaching professionals.
