Golf IQ Practice POD
Overview
PRACTICE POD
"Mistakes made before the swing may ruin any grand plans you have for the shot." Harvey Penick from "The Little Red Book"
The Practice Pod allows you eliminate most swing faults before they start.
The Practice POD is a lightweight portable alignment tool that ensures that you will have square alignment, the correct ball position, and are standing the proper distance from the ball.
- Learn the perfect ball position
- Ensure that your alignment is on target
- Stand the correct distance from the ball
- Eliminate your swing faults before they start
Who Needs It?
The Practice POD is a requirement for anyone who is serious about improving their game by practicing at the driving range. It will simply make your practice time more effective and productive. The best players in the world use alignment aids while they practice. Why don’t you?
The Practice POD is also great for beginning golfers who need to learn the fundamentals of the address position, including alignment and ball position.
If you constantly battle a slice (or a hook), chances are you have faulty alignment and the swing faults that create the slice are caused by your faulty alignment.
What Can It Do for Your Game?
The Practice POD will make your practice more productive and most importantly more effective. Using the practice POD will ensure that you have square alignment, the proper ball position, and that you are the right distance from the ball. But why is this important?
- Faulty alignment causes other swing faults that result in slices, pulls, hooks and pushes.
- Poor ball position makes consistent contact virtually impossible with all of the different clubs. If you have a favorite club but struggle with others this applies to you.
- The proper distance from the ball allows you to swing the club on the correct path. If you struggle to make solid contact with any club on a consistent basis, this applies to you.
Using the Practice POD in your practice ensures that you will have the correct address position eliminating most swing faults before they start!
How It Works?
SHORT IRONS & WEDGES
Short Irons & Wedges
- Set the ball opposite the focal disk.
- Before you set the club in behind the ball, set your feet hip width apart, with each foot equidistant from the Ball Position Rod (BPR). Now the ball is in the center of your stance.
- Take your posture so that your arms hang softly from your shoulders and your weight is balanced on the arches of your feet. This athletic posture ensures that you will be standing the correct distance from the ball.
- It is useful to mark the BPR at your toes with a Sharpie marker so you will know what your perfect distance is to the ball
- Set the center of the club face directly behind the ball
- Lean the club slightly towards your front leg, so that the grip of the club is opposite the inside of your front leg. The grip will now be leaning towards the target and slightly ahead of the BPR. This position ensures that you will hit down on the ball. If you struggle with fat and thin shots try this tip out.
- Finally make certain that your feet, hips, shoulders, and eyes are parallel to each other and to the Alignment Rod.
MIDLE & LONG IRONS
Middle & Long Irons
- Set the ball opposite the focal disk
- Before you set the club in behind the ball, set your feet shoulder width apart.
- Set your right foot slightly farther from the BPR than your left foot. The focal disk should be opposite the middle of your left pectoral muscle, ensuring the correct ball position.
- Take your posture so that your arms hang softly from your shoulders and your weight is balanced on the arches of your feet. This athletic posture ensures that you will be standing the correct distance from the ball.

THE DRIVER
The Driver
- Set the ball opposite the focal disk.
- Before you set the club in behind the ball, set your feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart.
- Position the inside of your left foot right next to the BPR. This will ensure that your ball is positioned opposite the inside of your left heel.
- Set the center of the club face directly behind the ball.
- Be certain that the grip is still opposite the inside of your front leg.
- With this ball position, the shaft of the club will cover the BPR. This position ensures that you will have a slight upward angle of attack with the driver ensuring the perfect launch angle.
- Finally make certain that your feet, hips, shoulders, and eyes are parallel to each other and to the Alignment Rod. With the driver you will feel as though there is more weight on your back foot than your front foot. Allow this to happen. If your weight is distributed evenly between both feet
chances are you will be hitting from an open stance and a slice will result!
