Golf IQ Smash Bag
Overview
SMASH BAG
It has often been said that golf’s moment of truth is impact. Impact is the moment that the club head contacts the ball, this moment seals your fate, either you are a player or you are out for a very long walk. If you can capture the feeling of the correct impact you are on your way to being a player.
The Smash Bag has a proprietary target map that gives you visual feedback on the quality of your impact. Regular practice with the Smash Bag will teach you the feeling of golf’s crowning moment: impact.
- Learn the feeling of the correct impact
- Eliminate fat and thin shots
- Cure your slice
- Use it at home or on the range
- Perfectly safe for you and your clubs
- Proprietary Target Map gives visual feedback on your impact position
Who Needs It?
Golfers that have trouble hitting behind the ball (fat shots) and those that top the ball on a regular basis need to master golf’s moment of truth.
Golfers that battle a slice also need to improve the way that their club travels through the impact zone. Those who slice contact the ball with an open club face and often with an overly upright club shaft at impact. The Smash Bag’s proprietary target map gives you visual feedback on the quality of your impact.

What Can It Do for Your Game?
The Smash Bag is a great way to learn the feeling of pure impact. Anyone can learn to “smash the ball farther and straighter down the fairway”.
How Does It Work?
Regular practice with the Golf IQ Smash Bag will improve your impact. You can eliminate fat and thin shots and cure your slice. Try these drills, it really is that simple.
Eliminate Fat & Thin Shots
The primary cause of inconsistent contact is that the golfer does not trust the golf club to do its work. They attempt to “help” the ball up into the air by adding loft to the club. Golfers who do this will, at the point of impact, have more weight on their back foot than their front foot.
Golfers that strike the ball in this manner hit behind the ball causing fat shots.
After a few fat shots the same golfer will pull their arms in, causing a topped shot.
This “short arm” impact also prevents the club from releasing properly through impact which results in a slice.
Using the Smash Bag
- Fill the Smash Bag with old clothes or towels. You should pack the bag very loosely so that the Smash Bag can properly capture the impact of your club.
- Set the Smash Bag against a wall or post, as you do not want the bag to fly across the room or down the driving range.
- Set your address position so that the Smash Bag is opposite your front foot.
- Swing the club at 50% of your maximum speed and aim your club head into the target map
- Allow the Smash Bag to capture your club and now you can pause and evaluate your impact.
The Impact Checklist
- Your weight should be 75% on your front foot
- Your hips should be open to the target line and your shoulders square to the target line
- Make certain that your arms are both extended and that the back of your left wrist is flat.
- The toe of your club (not the heel) should be caught by the bag and the shaft of the club should cover the shaft line on the target map
CURING A SLICE
Curing a Slice with the Smash Bag
The ONLY reason that a golfer slices the ball is because they have an open club face at impact. This open club face is indicated by a short arm position after impact. If you slice the ball, this is you!
- Swing into the Smash Bag as above; however, make sure that you are driving the toe of the club into the bag. In your case you need to exaggerate the rotation of the club head. The club shaft should not be captured by the bag, just the toe of the club.
